After being brutally beaten by the Kingpin—who has since left crime behind for his wife Vanessa—Spider-Man is found by police and taken to a hospital. A doctor treats him and protects his secret identity. Meanwhile, at Restwell Nursing Home, Dr. Rinehart reveals he is the original Mysterio, having faked his death to swindle the elderly. Seeking hidden treasure, Mysterio incapacitates the Burglar and locks him in the boiler room. Despite medical warnings, Spider-Man heads to Restwell, falling victim to powerful new illusions. He’s eventually chained underwater by Mysterio, who plans to drown him, while J. Jonah Jameson suffers a breakdown at the Bugle.
