Luke Cage and D.W. Griffith stumble upon the Circus of Crime in California while searching for Claire Temple. Luke saves a trapeze artist, who turns out to be one of the Great Gambonnos. Claire reveals her ex-husband is Bill Foster, aka Black Goliath. Foster, under the circus's control, attacks Luke in jealousy. Both are ensnared by the Ringmaster's hypnotic spell.

- Bill Foster, or Black Goliath, was portrayed by the inimitable Laurence Fishburne! He was mainly a supporting character in the 2018 film Ant-Man and the Wasp.
- There is a pretty notable scene during the Civil War comic in which Goliath is killed by Ragnarok, a clone of Thor. This was a pivotal moment in Civil War that led to some characters switching sides; a storyline beat that is completely missed in the Captain America: Civil War film.
