Black Lightning #1

A new hero has emerged in Suicide Slum—Black Lightning, the alter ego of Jefferson Pierce, a former Olympic athlete and now a dedicated high school teacher at Garfield High. Pierce discovers that his community is under the control of a ruthless gang known as The 100. Taking action, Black Lightning confronts drug dealer Joey Toledo, beating his henchmen and demanding information about the gang. He orders Toledo to meet him at the school gym at midnight. Later, in civilian clothes, Pierce confides in his friend Peter Gambi, expressing doubts about turning the school into a battleground as he reflects on his mission.
