In the 19th century, Bruce Wayne recalls his parents’ murder by a highwayman, surrounded by bats. Studying in Vienna, he consults Dr. Freud about dreams involving bats and his parents’ death, dismissing their symbolic meaning. Returning to Gotham, Bruce reconnects with friends Alfred and James Gordon, learning the city’s crime has worsened. As Batman, he stops criminals but becomes linked to a series of murders. Accused of being Jack the Ripper, Bruce is tried and imprisoned. With Alfred’s help, he escapes, uncovers the true killer—family friend Jacob Packer—and clears his name. Gordon accepts Batman as Gotham’s protector.
