Incredible Hulk #449 (Newsstand Edition)

In the western United States, the Hulk and Janis Jones are struck by a missile, sending them hurtling toward a small town. Janis is saved from a fatal fall by Mach-1, who mistakes her for the Hulk's captive. Surrounded by the Thunderbolts, a new superhero team, the Hulk seemingly surrenders, but it's a ruse to gather them in one place. When the Hulk breaks free, he battles the Thunderbolts, realizing he's heard Meteorite's voice before. As the conflict escalates, the Hulk damages a dam, forcing the Thunderbolts to prioritize rescuing civilians. Despite their clash, Janis aids the Hulk, who collapses from a mysterious injury, leaving unanswered questions about the battle's true nature.

- [Feb 2024] We have known for quite some time that there will be a Thunderbolts movie coming, though it has recently experienced some casting changes and delays.
- In Jan 2024 it was announced that Steven Yeun was departing the project, rumored to play The Sentry, due to scheduling conflicts. The Sentry, however, was not a member of the originally depicted Thunderbolts in Incredible Hulk #449. Many of the characters we will see as part of the MCU's Thunderbolts were not on the original team either.
- This particular copy of the book is extremely difficult to locate due to it being a newsstand edition, making the speculation extra juicy.
