F. A. Schist and Hargood Wickham crash their hovercraft into the Man-Thing in the swamps, discovering the Fountain of Youth in La Hacienda. They attempt to restore the Man-Thing to human form using the Fountain's waters but face resistance from Lorena and the Capitan. Schist and Wickham propose a business deal but provoke the Man-Thing, leading to Wickham's apparent demise. Schist's greed backfires when he transforms into a withered creature like the Fathers, who reveal the consequences of their own greed. Enraged, Schist takes Lorena captive, prompting the Man-Thing to defend her. In the ensuing struggle, the Man-Thing regains its former powers and incinerates Schist. With the secret of La Hacienda seemingly safe, the Man-Thing returns to the swamps.
