Scientist Dr. Oheimer, inventor of a serum to boost intelligence, is seemingly kidnapped by the US Military. However, these officials are actually foreign spies seeking the secrets of the super-soldier serum from the Man-Thing (formerly Ted Sallis). They use Oheimer to administer the serum, unknowingly aiding the spies. The real US Military discovers the situation and plans a rescue mission. In the ensuing conflict, Oheimer dies, and soldiers burn at the Man-Thing's touch. The swamp-bound Man-Thing retrieves Oheimer's body as the base goes up in flames.
